NOW HERE I AM
Those fancied dreams of youth
The great unknown to be explored
What noble duties lay ahead, oh Joy
To heal the psychic wounds, to aid the ill
To leave the world a better place
Life fulfilled with path so smooth.
What grandiose plans I had to be a healer
Medicine the phantom dream, was not to be
My life transformed by pain and death
Patience imposed and borne, and then collapsed
The world so fragile and uncertain
oh the path so strewn and dreams so changed
Rebuilt the vision with diplomas to mark the path
Knit a garment better suited to my frame
and looking for a key to open doors for me again
Academia became my shelter, learning brought resolve
To open minds, and challenge all to find their way
with so many frontiers to explore, going onward
now here I am, still ever dreaming
What change awaits this octogenarian
What will tomorrow bring
surely there is a purpose here
